About the TMA

Sacramento Transportation Management Association

The Sacramento TMA is an independent, non-profit membership association, representing 145 employers and helping more than 87,153 commuters find alternatives to driving alone to work.  The TMA was founded in 1990 by employers that were concerned about the negative impact of Sacramento's traffic congestion and air pollution on their employees' commutes and quality of life.

City General Plan update

On Thursday, May 8, the City of Sacramento is hosting a community event to commemorate the public release of the draft 2030 General Plan.

Destination 2030: Celebrating Sacramento's Future is a community-wide event to be held in Cesar Chavez Plaza Park, 910 I Street, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 8.

A general plan is a city's official statement regarding the extent and types of development needed to achieve it's physical, economic and social goals. It acts as a blueprint for not only growth, but the preservation of open space.

Try Telecommuting

Time wasted every day commuting adds up fast.

One solution is to telecommute - work somewhere other than the traditional office.  The benefits of doing this can be tremendous.

Don't Panic !

We have an Emergency Ride Home program

Commuters whose employers are TMA members have an Emergency Ride Home if they don't drive alone to work but need a ride because of a personal or family emergency.

Win Prizes in Commuter Club

Keep a Trip Diary and win prizes - coffee cards, movie passes, Tshirts, mouse pads, tote bags and a $10,000 End-of-the-Year Cash Wheel.

In 2007, more than $10,000 in prizes were awarded to Commuter Club members, including $7,000 in cash during the month of December.

Every day, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 6 million American adults commute to and from work without stepping into a car.

Reduce the number of miles you drive by walking, biking, carpooling or taking mass transit wherever possible.

Global Warming

For some tips on easy things you can do to help stop global warming go to the website from a recent California conference
and for more information, check out the
USEPA's website

Learn, share, live Green

Check out http://www.ourgreencommunity.org/, for the latest information tips, videos and events.  Determine your carbon “footprint” – the amount of carbon dioxide produced by your life. OurGreenCommunity has a new one, designed for the Sacramento area.

Check your tires weekly to make sure they’re properly inflated
Proper inflation can improve gas mileage by more than 3% Since every gallon of gasoline saved keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, every increase in fuel efficiency makes a difference!

Keep your car tuned up

Regular maintenance helps improve fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.

When just 1% of car owners properly maintain their cars, nearly a billion pounds of carbon dioxide are kept out of the atmosphere.

When it is time for a new car, choose a more fuel efficient vehicle

You can save 3,000 pounds of carbon dioxide every year if your new car gets only 3 miles per gallon more than your current one. You can get up to 60 miles per gallon with a hybrid! You can find information on fuel efficiency here and here.

Avoiding just 10 miles of driving every week eliminates about 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year! Calculate your personal carbon footprint.
